Our mission is to promote and advocate for “green” design, construction, and
development practices in the City of Lowell through research,
identification, and implementation of policies, programs, and education
that will increase sustainability and reduce the environmental
impacts of building activity.
Some examples of activities the Green Building Commission will take
action on in order to achieve its mission include the following:
- Target waste reduction, recycling, building materials and techniques, energy efficiency, air quality, site and building design.
- Identify successful models and practices from other communities that may apply to the City of Lowell
- Propose programs and policies to the Lowell City Council and City Administration
- Work with UMass and MCC to develop education and outreach programs
- Identify opportunities for funding public and private green building and energy conservation programs
