About GBC

Mission

To promote and advocate for “green” design, construction, and development practices in the City of Lowell, through research, identification, and implementation of policies, programs, and education that will increase the sustainability and reduce the environmental impacts of building activity.

Some examples of activities the Green Building Commission will take action on in order to achieve its mission include the following:

  • Target waste reduction, recycling, building materials and techniques, energy efficiency, air quality, site and building design.
  • Identify successful models and practices from other communities that may apply to the City of Lowell
  • Propose programs and policies to the Lowell City Council and City Administration
  • Work with UMass and MCC to develop education and outreach programs
  • Identify opportunities for funding public and private green building and energy conservation programs

Public Meetings

The Commission typically holds public meetings every second Thursday of the month, held in the Mayor’s Reception Room of City Hall, 375 Merrimack Street, Lowell MA.
